About the Waliggo Family
Our beloved fat her is late Mr. Waliggo Charles. He was brutaly murdered on Christmas eve of 1998. Our adorable mama is still living and we all love her so much; she is sweetest mom in the entire world. We are a family of seven kids: five boys and 2 girls. The boys are (in order of birth): Peter Franci s Luswata, Joseph Mugera, John Mary Lugemwa, Adrian Ssemukasa, and Charles Waliggo. Namujjuzi Stephanie and Stellamaris Nalugajju are two girls; Stepha is the fourth born and Stella the last born in the family. We also have two half-sisters: Agnes Namusoke and Mary Namata.
The waliggo family home is located in a small town called Kyetume along the Masaka-Mbarara road, 40 kms from Masaka city and 3kms before reaching Kyazanga town. The family has lived on this property for over 30 years. Our local village is called Mulobere, composed of about 10 households. We have a very small trading center with a number of shops where we can get groceries; it is in 15 minutes walking distance. There is also a big market where fresh produce can be obtained; it convenes every other Thursday.
We are located in Kyawagonya parish, Lwengo sub-county, Bukoto county in Masaka district which is in South Western Uganda. We belong to the Buganda Kingdom which is the home of the Baganda tribe. The Baganda people are very loyal to their king, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. Buganda is the largest kingdom in Uganda and its people inhabit most of the central region of Uganda. Our family belongs to the Mutima (Heart) clan, from our father's side but our mother is from the Ndigga (Sheep) clan. The children always belong to the clan of the father. You might be wondering why we all have different family names; well, the Baganda naming system is different; names are chosen from the clan. Each class has a set of names that parents can chose for their kids; usually the grandparents picks the name, which in most cases are names grand-grand parents. Visit the Buganda Kingdom website to learn more about the Baganda people--their culture, and language.
